Natalia forwarded an article to me about Noah Strycker going around the world in an organized way for the full year of 2015.  He is not going to use guides to find birds during his big year, he is going to work with passionate locals who are familiar with their local patches in an attempt to become the first person to see 5000 birds in one calendar year.

He is working with a number of organizations to sponsor this trip and ultimately there should be a book describing his adventure.  You can follow along on his activities as he writes a summary for Audubon each day or so:  http://mag.audubon.org/articles/birds/welcome-birding-without-borders.  He has also described a bit about his quest on his own website if you would like more information:  http://noahstrycker.com/2015/01/the-world-big-year-begins/.

It seems he has quite a year planned for himself.  It would be interesting to run into him along the way and see where he stands on his count when one might cross his path.
