Red Frog Colors Week

Panama Wildlife

As I was going through photos over the last few weeks I realized that we had a great selection of the different color morphs that you can see when you visit Bocas del Toro, Panama.  The Oophaga pumilio formerly known as Dedrobates pumilio is a small species of poison dart frog found throughout Central America.  Here in Bocas we have a bunch of different color morphs found on Isla Bastimentos as well as on other islands throughout the archipelago.  These frogs are frequently found in leaf litter in forested areas.  We have been fortunate to work with several sets of scientists who are studying these little guys.  It has been a great learning experience for us as well as for them.  We tend to find them on our hikes throughout the province.  Each day this week we will share a different color morph with you and let you know roughly where we encountered this special frog.
