The Beauty of Pollination

A dear friend of ours sent a link to this video to us over the weekend.  We all enjoyed it so much we wanted to share it with you.  We see things like this around Tranquilo Bay on a regular basis, but to see it so beautifully captured on film is rare.

The Beauty of Pollination – Moving Art TM by Louie SchwartzbergThis video was shown at the TED conference in 2011, with scenes from “Wings of Life”, a film about the threat to essential pollinators that produce over a third of the food we eat. The seductive love dance between flowers and pollinators sustains the fabric of life and is the mystical keystone event where the animal and plant worlds intersect that make the world go round.

Giant Grasshoppers

We have our friends the giant grasshoppers around here right now. They are flying about and making their home anywhere they please. For whatever reason, Jay had a family hanging out in between the screen and his window for an extended period of time. They are gorgeous to watch both at rest and in flight. Here is a great photo Ramon got of one at rest.

Postcards from Tranquilo Bay

We are going to do a new series for November. Postcards from Tranquilo Bay – highlighting some of the shots that our guests have captured during their stay. This month I highlighted the work of two of our guests who are artists in their own right. One of the things they wanted to do on their vacation was capture some beautiful photographs – and they did.

Susan and Scott checking out a walking stick insect. Susan found this one and brought it to the main building for all of the children to see.
