Photo Gallery Preview: ROYGBIV

Wildlife Panama

This lovely grasshopper like Orthoptera was found here on site several years ago for the first time.  It is so colorful that when we showed it to a scientist in the USA who has studied Orthoptera he felt it should be named ROYGBIV just like all the colors in the rainbow.  This scientist was pretty sure that this was a new species.  We worked for a while to get him several specimens so that he could study them.  In order to follow the proper protocol, one of the scientists studying frogs at the Smithsonian dried the specimens and brought them to him.  By the time he received them, they were not in the best shape.  We hope some day someone with an interest in this insects will come down and study them in Panama as they are beautiful and only come about during certain times of the year.
